Design Battle Royale 2014

More than 300 attendees filled our space on July 18 to witness Design Battle 2014 — nclud’s annual design competition. This year’s event featured five design professionals battling it out by displaying their creative chops through four live themed rounds, while five industry luminaries critiqued their every move as the evening’s esteemed judges.

This year’s winner, Raska Yin, was joined by his fellow competitors Joseph Le, Felix Gilbert, Ayn Roberts, and Chris Desrocher. And the judges panel was comprised of Chris Allen, brand strategist and designer at Brave UX, Matthew Robinson, Art Director at Marvel Entertainment, Ramla Mahmood, designer at Vox Media, Jim Basio, lead designer at Contactually, and Justin Dickinson, Director of Design at Vimeo.

Design Battle Royale features five professional designers competing in four rounds of elimination. Each 10 to 15-minute round has a theme and restrictions, and our esteemed panel of judges will rate designers to eliminate them one by one until a victor is determined. Those interested in competing are asked to tweet a single image that showcases their design chops, and the five competitors are announced in advance of the showdown.

We couldn’t have done it without our sponsors: Wacom and General Assembly who provided the awesome prizes. Also, our promotional sponsor Workhorse who made some sweet event themed posters to benefit our community.
